A 1920s Revival – University Park, MD

Rear 2nd Floor Addition | Interior Gut | Exterior Facelift

A Three-Level Transformation with Arched Windows and Modern Touches. This home was originally built in 1920 but had lost a bit of its charm. Lime-washed brick and James Hardie board and batten siding on the side and rear, elevated the elegance of this home while maintaining it’s original charm. To further elevate the exterior aesthetics, we rebuilt the front retaining wall, elevated its entry by installing Pennsylvania Blue Stone to the front walkway, stairway, landing and built a custom red cedar rear deck and fence. To maximize this homes natural light, we installed additional windows with custom arches to reignite its original charm. To the front entry portico, we added a custom 5-lite Mahogany wood door and complimented that with our signature contemporary wood-look aluminum soffits to match.  Our approach to this design is complimenting its original 1920s character while tastefully adding a touch of modernity throughout.

Dual-entry galley kitchen with herringbone tile flooring; white and champagne bronze appliances, faucet, built-in glass cleaner and cabinet door handles. The kitchen extends its functionality into the dining area. In addition to an installed wine cooler and glass front display cabinetry, we built-in a Bosch espresso machine for the discerning coffee-loving clients who can order an Italian ristretto or a Spanish Cafe cortado…all with the touch of a button from a smart phone or tablet. Just on the other side of the kitchen, the herringbone tile flooring continues into a custom mud room and custom powder room with Behr “Unwind” green shiplap walls .

To round out the main level living space, we installed Whispering Wheat Oak 7.5” engineered wood flooring, a charcoal gray stucco finish to the arched fireplace, complimented by a rustic oak wood mantel. Heading to the 2nd level, we installed custom horizontal wrought iron handrails for a touch of contemporary design.

We created a true owner’s suite, with vaulted ceilings, and a custom closet by completely reconfiguring the 2nd level to ensure a luxurious owner’s ensuite, as well. To create the essence of a spa haven at home, we installed Japandi Natural 8x48” wood-look porcelain on the ceiling and polished Concept Gray porcelain on the floor and walls. To finish, we installed Delta Champagne Broze faucets, shower head, bath filler and body jets along with a floor-to-ceiling glass enclosure and jacuzzi.
